Big thanks to all of the vendors and customers who helped make the first Winter Farmers’ Market of the season a big success! The kick-off event of the Port Washington Winter Farmers’ Market occurred on Saturday, November 5th at the First Congregational Church in Port Washington. What was most exciting? We can’t decide!
We had vendors that filled the community room at the church and there were multiple vendors along the sidewalk who were selling vegetables (fresh and canned), fruits, wreathes and basket making material, flowers and barbecue meat sandwiches (they brought their mobile grill for the added taste).
Inside we had pies, cakes, cookies and Greek specialties, meats and fish, cheese, breads, jams, apples and more. As well, all those that attended were treated to music by the local Bantry Bay Irish band, and also had an opportunity to learn about the wide variety of root vegetables we grow on Wisconsin farms. The Port Washington Soccer Club sold coffee and brats from the hall’s kitchen window. Two CSAs, Wellspring (Newburg) and Noel Farms (Fredonia) showed the attendees what local growing is all about.
It was clear that shoppers were doing their weekly shopping at this farmers’ market based on the wide variety of produce and added-value products that were available.
Pictures to follow.
The next event date is Saturday, November 12th, 9:00am-1:00pm. Stop back for details about what’s in store next weekend!
