Port Washington’s 2012-13 Winter-Spring Farmers’ Market Wrap Up

This is the third year the Port Washington Winter-Spring Farmers’ Market was held and it seems to have really caught on! We had many loyal customers as well as new people finding us at every market. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and the market is becoming the lively community event we envisioned from the beginning.

Over the course of the winter-spring seasons, our vendors were able to extend the growing season and offer a variety of fresh fruits and plenty of veggies like kale, salad greens, peppers, potatoes, onions, beets and carrots. Fresh herbs were also a feature.

Some of the specialty foods that were found at the market were cheeses, eggs, herbal teas, baked goods, sorghum products, jams, jellies, syrups and honey and yummy kettle-corn.

And…let’s not forget our artisan vendors who brought soy candles, bath and body products, children’s books, hand-made wooden toys and cutting boards. There was so much to see and choose from!

Integrating local musicians added a special flare. We were pleased to highlight several talented musicians over the course of the season; there was a lot of tapping and clapping going on.

I am very pleased with the success of our third year. Our foundations have been set, our plans are being met and the focus of recruiting and broadening our farmer base has been thus far successful.

We extend a sincere thank you to PortFish, LLC, First Congregational Church and of course our vendors for their support and help in making this event possible. It is with immense pride that we have all been able to bring this type of opportunity to our great community.

And to our customers, your support keeps our local growers and artisans going strong. Thank you! And don’t forget that buying local also offers the healthiest, tastiest, freshest products.

See you in November!
