The Port Washington Winter-Spring Farmers’ Market wrapped up its fourth season on May 31st and I am very pleased with our success. I observed first-hand the enthusiasm and commitment everyone brought to make the market a success.
With a diversity of farms, vendors and organizations represented throughout the winter and spring months, the market has become a community gathering spot. Residents know that it is a wonderful place to experience the vibe of the neighborhood, meet their neighbors and support the local economy.
We are about local food and products, supporting and celebrating the farmers and artisans who make it possible. We want to keep our dollars within the community. We want to be an example of sustainability. We want to provide healthy food to our friends and neighbors. We want to provide entertainment which provides music for shoppers and an opportunity to showcase diverse, local talent. Now, that’s a commitment to the community!
I’d personally like to extend a sincere thank you to PortFish Ltd, First Congregational Church, and of course our vendors, for their support and help in making this event possible. Each of you brought a unique energy that contributed to the positive energy of the market.
And to our customers… your support keeps our local growers and artisans going strong. Thank you! Of course, all of the other reaped benefits from buying local food and products are too numerous to list. But again, thank you for helping us to sustain and spread the word.
Mark your calendars! The 2014-2015 Port Washington Winter-Spring Farmers’ Market kicks off on November 1, 2014.
Have a wonderful and safe summer!
